WHAT WE DO
PROBLEM
Feeding America projects that 2020 food insecurity rates and childhood food insecurity rates will be at 15.8% and 24.1%, respectively, at year’s end in Prince George’s County. Maryland is the wealthiest state in the country, but one in seven people in Prince George’s County is food insecure.
The COVID-19 pandemic deepened the barriers present in our food system that prevent people from consistently accessing nutritious food and continues to expose the causes and consequences of food insecurity. School closures, job disruptions, and no paid sick leave means COVID-19 disproportionately impacts seniors and low-income families (including children) and individuals, which comprise a majority of our service population.
SOLUTION
Passion & Compassion seeks to address our community’s need for fresh, nutritious food that is both affordable and accessible. We accomplish this by:
Weekly produce distributions throughout Prince George’s County
Partner with local organizations to provide them food
Accessible food pantry for low-income families
Community Food Hub for cold and dry food storage
IMPACT
So, what is our impact? Here are our numbers from 2021.
8 food donors
15 food distributors
232 produce and grocery distributions
2.5 million pounds of food recovered
2.7 million pounds of food distributed
152,000 individuals served annually
